The idea of home has become increasingly harder to define in a globalized world. By commuting from town to town and often times country to country, many citizens of the 21st century find themselves asking “do I even belong here?”. The Self Service Hotel will help them to feel like they do, by offering an alternative to the impersonal ambient of the classic hotel room and thus presenting home away from home. The hotel offers a rather impersonal structural frame in which every guest can insert a highly personalized hotel room. Through the use of digital booking tools, prior to his/her arrival, the guest can specify every piece of furniture and decoration in the bedroom, as well as a position within the given frame for the room to occupy. The room will then be assembled and hoisted into place through a combination of technological and man-made efforts, ready for to be occupied by a global citizen in need of rest.
